3D Reconstruction from 2D Portrait

Identity can be represented in many forms. Any portrait intent on capturing the likeness of a person contains certain aspects of their essence while leaving others behind. I’m interested in how close a representation of something must be in order for others to perceive it as the thing it is intended to represent.

This is a study in analogue 3D printing, and the natural human ability to find patterns and perceive a face from a stack of individually ambiguous shapes.
