Mutations compares a mutated MAPT gene with a normal MAPT gene. microtubule-associated protein tau is associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease. The DNA sequence of the normal and mutated gene were translated into the corresponding protein sequence. Each sequence was visualized using processing, then compared. The two patterns were then etched into plexiglass allowing the seemingly insignificant discrepancies between mutated and normal gene to be pronounced when overlapped.
The project was a concept imagined as a potential pattern for the glass interiors an Alzheimer’s research lab facility.
